The News Memo Movie List is growing - below are the next set of films. You can access the first two installments of the list here.
We hope you enjoy it! If you have any movie suggestions for the list, please leave a comment.
No Country For Old Men (2007)
Note: Based on the novel of the same title by Cormac McCarthy. Directed by the Cohen Brothers, this western thriller features one of the most haunting villains - Anton Chigurh. Dark, incredible acting, psychological games, philosophical questions, and full of memorable scenes and dialogues.
Perfect Days (2023)
Note: Follows the daily life of Hirayama, a man who cleans public bathrooms for The Tokyo Toilet company. Hirayama’s attention for his tedious work and the people he encounters are extraordinary. His monastic-like days of contemplation and humble work are disrupted by relationships. Aesthetically captivating, this film (like all cinema) is best watched with friends that will help you see the depth of the movie.
Brooklyn (2015)
A romantic drama about a young Irish immigrant, Eilis Lacey, who experiences homesickness and growth after moving to 1950s New York. Two gentlemen, one from her hometown in Ireland and another in America, pursue her. She has to decide between comfort and adventure.
The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)
Note: In 1951, “Che” Guevara goes on a motorcycle journey across Latin America with his friend in which he is provoked by the conditions of the poor and the injustice they faced. The trip was pivotal in leading Guevara to become a leading Cuban Marxist revolutionary. The film is both humorous and serious, and left me with a question: how does one interpret something they see/experience, and how should one respond to a provoking experience?
