Nasdaq and S&P 500 have fallen more than 20% and 12%, respectively, from their highs. Investors have shifted some capital from stocks to bonds as inflation stays hot and interest rates rise. A decline of 10% or more is considered a correction, while a 20% or larger drop is termed a bear market. Apart from a few weeks at the start of the pandemic (March 2020), the last sustained bear market was during the Great Financial Crisis in 2008-2009.
Disney v. DeSantis: Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law this week dismantling Disney’s private governing jurisdiction that had allowed them to run Disney World as its own private city. DeSantis argues the company is given special treatment and that "no individual or no company in Florida is treated this way." According to the newly passed law by the GOP-controlled house, Disney will likely face higher taxes and regulatory red tape.
