Inflation: Prices accelerated further in January, increasing 7.5% year-over-year, above economist projections of 7.2%, and up from December (7.0% increase). It’s the largest increase since 1982. Energy, food, and used cars continue to rise at the fastest rate, with energy prices up 30-40% from last year.

Texas abortion rates drop: Abortion procedures dropped 60% in the first month following the Texas legislation that bans abortions after a heartbeat is detected (generally six weeks). The law, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in September 2021, allows private citizens to sue those who provide abortions that violate the post heartbeat limit.
