🐎 The Origin of "Riding Shotgun"

Back in the days of stagecoaches, the person sitting next to the driver was often called the “shotgun messenger,” as the person would carry a shotgun to protect the coach from bandits who were looking for an easy steal. Regular use of the term "riding shotgun" emerged in films in the beginning of the 20th century.
