Ship jammed in Suez Canal: The Ever Given, a massive freight ship, is stuck sideways in Egypt’s Suez Canal, blocking a key shipping route between the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, and leading to costly traffic jams. The boat, which is ¼ mile long and weighs 200,000 tons, became lodged in the strait on Tuesday, likely due to strong winds. Crews are working to dislodge it by removing sand around the body of the boat (video).

Insight: The Suez Canal is a 120 mile waterway that facilitates around 12% of global trade.

President Biden held his first press conference as President on Thursday. A limited number of reporters were allowed to ask questions surrounding the crisis at the southern border, the potential of removing the senate filibuster (which would allow Democrats to pass legislation with a simple majority), and whether he will run for President in 2024.
