Democrats hold a majority in the U.S. Senate following two wins in Georgia’s runoff races on Tuesday. Democrats Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock defeated Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler by small margins. Republicans and Democrats now each hold 50 seats in the senate. VP-elect Kamala Harris will be the tie-breaking vote.

Extra: More money was spent on the Jon Ossoff v. David Perdue election than any other senate race in U.S. history.

Elon Musk became the richest person in the world on Thursday, as Tesla’s stock price continues to rise. With a net worth of more than $185B, Musk surpassed Jeff Bezos as the world’s richest person alive (Bezos had held the title since 2017). Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, responded to a tweet announcing the news, saying, “How strange... well back to work…” The stock price of Tesla (TSLA) rose 8% on Thursday.
